On May 20, 1927, Charles Lindbergh took off from Roosevelt Field in New York and landed in Paris, becoming the first person to fly solo nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean.

Lindbergh flew a custom-built monoplane named the Spirit of St. Louis, covered in silver paint and designed for speed and efficiency.
