The first ATM is installed

On April 14, 1967, the world’s first automated teller machine (ATM) was installed at a Barclays Bank branch in London. This innovation fundamentally transformed the banking industry and how customers access their money.

The engineer John Shepherd-Barron developed the concept of the ATM, imagining a machine that would dispense cash in a simple and user-friendly way. The first ATM allowed customers to withdraw cash using a special voucher system.
