On February 25, 2010, the world's first underwater museum, Museo Subacuático de Arte (MUSA), opened off the coast of Cancun, Mexico, featuring over 500 submerged sculptures aimed at promoting coral life.

The museum was designed by sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor and was created to raise awareness about marine conservation. Many sculptures depict human forms integrated with ocean life, telling a poignant story of human impact on the environment.
